Our mission: To prevent violence by building skills and inspiring individuals to be agents of personal, community & cultural change.
Our Organization
As a 501(c)3 nonprofit, Resolve reaches children, adults and the elderly in Northern and Central New Mexico. Conceptual seminars teach the origins of violence and how to assess risk and set boundaries for healthy relationships. Experiential classes teach hands-on interpersonal skills and strategies to prevent and stop assault. Resolve reaches individuals and communities through partnerships with schools and other nonprofits, community groups and Pueblos, as well as classes for the public.
By reducing the fear and impact of violence, we help to create a community where people live powerfully, experience freedom, and pursue joy. We believe it is possible to tackle the causes and effects of violence by partnering within the community to:
• Raise Personal Expectations:
Increasing self-worth, enhancing relationships, and promoting trauma recovery.
• Promote Social Justice:
Teaching students to recognize and confront oppression.
• Empower Communication:
Training individuals to advocate for themselves and others.
• Improve Awareness:
Providing skills to recognize and avoid conflict and violence.
• Teach Physical Skills:
Teaching self-defense strategies to address boundary violation and prevent assault.
Our History
Resolve teaches a research-based, trauma-informed curriculum that was developed over 35 years ago to teach effective prevention and safety skills for the average person. Resolve’s curriculum was created by researching police records and by interviewing survivors and perpetrators, as well as expertise from the fields of education, psychology, sociology, communications and physiology. Combining this data on assault with information on learning styles, the founders created the most effective type of training for different groups (children, men, women, wheelchair users, etc.).
In 1999, volunteers and staff at the then Santa Fe Rape Crisis Center organized the first Resolve class, acknowledging the significant need in our community for effective prevention skills.
In 2008, Resolve created seminars based on its experiential classes to teach effective safety and defense skills for the average person. We began offering short, 1-1.5-hour classes to better serve those with limited time. Seminar classes address issues of violence prevention within a community, and include discussions about the roots of violence and bystander intervention. They also emphasize the importance of intuition development, and the power of using one’s voice in an assault situation.
While New Mexico has many quality agencies that assist survivors of assault, Resolve is the only organization in New Mexico that focuses on concrete preventative skills and innovative experiential-based safety training.
