The initial process is personal exploration of Resolve. Becoming an instructor requires the investment of being a student first. Our curriculum is deeply guided by philosophy, principles, and training, but it is your experience of these in action that will determine your interest in further exploring Resolve. The first steps are:
- Attend a 20-hour Basics public graduation or attend a Rethinking Violence: Prevention 101 seminar or skip ahead to the next step.
- Attend a 20-Hour Basics Course as a student.
- The next steps are a process of a mutual interview. It includes steps that will help you decide whether you are interested in the position while we assess whether you would be a good fit for our organization. All of our Whistle Instructors are Class Assistants first.
- If Resolve determines that you are a good fit for the volunteer Class Assistant position at the end of your Basics Course, Resolve staff will invite you to become an assistant.
- If you are still interested, you will be required to re-take Basics as the first step of assistant training.
- After you are a class assistant for 1-2 Basics, inform Resolve’s Executive Director, Alena Schaim, that you are interested in becoming a Whistle Instructor. If she determines that Resolve may be interested in training you, she will ask for a resume and letter of interest.
- On average, Class Assistants interested in becoming Whistle Instructors assist 6-15 Basics before instructor training begins.
